Ukraine Several years ago in Dnipro, a young woman — the mother of three children — died. The official cause of death was a heart attack. At the same time, her body showed more than 70 bruises, neighbors repeatedly called the police because of beatings, and the children were witnessing violence every day. The case was closed seven times — and each time the decisions to terminate the criminal proceedings were overturned. Peacebuilding is a very important aspect of the work of the NGO MARTIN-club, which contributes to strengthening social cohesion and restoring trust in a society affected by war. Peace building Work directions / Peacebuilding / Peacebuilding is a very important aspect of the work of the NGO MARTIN-club , which contributes to strengthening social cohesion and restoring trust in a society affected by war. As part of this, we focus on restorative justice , which allows war victims to express their experiences, find justice and be heard. The importance of establishing justice cannot be underestimated, as it not only restores the dignity of victims, but also contributes to the formation of a more just society, where the rights of everyone are taken into account. Restorative justice restores relationships and creates the basis for a future world. Community safety is another key aspect of our work. We strive to ensure that the rights and freedoms of all people are protected, especially those who have suffered the most from violence. An important tool in this process is the documentation of human rights violations during war , which allows not only to identify the perpetrators, but also to shape policies that prevent similar crimes in the future. A clear understanding of the history and causes of war serves as the basis for building a safe environment for all community members. Forum theater is used as a method of dialogue to engage communities in discussing complex social issues, including the consequences of war and ways to overcome them. This innovative approach allows participants to reflect on their own experiences, as well as propose solutions to restore peace and justice. Reparations for war victims are another component of our program, although they not only compensate for the harm caused, but also serve as a symbol of recognition. Thanks to the efforts of the NGO MARTIN-club, we, together with the community, are building a new, peaceful reality , where justice is a fundamental principle for a restored society.

What is violence? Violence is an intentional act by one person against another that violates their rights, dignity, or safety. It can be direct or covert, one-time or systemic. And it doesn't always leave physical traces - sometimes it manifests itself in words, restrictions, or financial dependence. Violence hotline Signs indicating violence: Fear of a specific person in your environment. Loss of control over personal decisions — domestic, financial, social. Constant tension in communication, feelings of guilt or anxiety. Regular threats, even if "without implementation." Inability to independently exit a toxic relationship or situation. Hotline in cases of violence Main forms of violence: Physical violence — hitting, pushing, causing bodily harm, restricting movement, holding by force. Psychological violence — insults, humiliation, manipulation, intimidation, control, isolation, prohibition of communication with loved ones. Sexual violence is any act of a sexual nature without voluntary consent, including within the family or partnership. Economic violence — control over spending, prohibition on working or studying, restriction of access to the common budget, confiscation of documents or property. These forms can exist in parallel and reinforce each other. A typical situation is when psychological violence is accompanied by economic dependence, which later turns into physical. Violence hotline Violence can be both overt and covert. Not everyone who experiences it can immediately give it a name—that’s okay. But if another person’s behavior systematically violates your boundaries, humiliates you, or controls you—it needs attention. First steps: what to do if you or your loved ones have been victims of violence In a situation of violence, the most important thing is to act with safety and your own capabilities in mind. There is no universal recipe, but there are basic steps that can help stabilize the situation and seek help. Take care of your safety: If the situation escalates, try to physically leave it: leave the room where the aggressor is, go to neighbors, acquaintances, or a public place. In case of a direct threat, call 102 and try to keep the communication line open until the police arrive. The MARTIN Club has crisis rooms — these are places of temporary safe stay where you can receive protection, confidentiality, and first-aid support. According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) , the Dnipropetrovsk region remains one of the largest regions that accepts internally displaced persons from frontline areas. In such difficult conditions, NGO MARTIN-club continues its activities, focusing on supporting the most vulnerable categories of women, in particular those who have survived violence or were forced to leave their homes due to war. The project is aimed at supporting women aged 18 to 35, including internally displaced persons and victims of gender-based violence. The project aims to improve the quality of life and well-being of women from socially vulnerable groups living in Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, Kamianskyi and Pavlohrad. From October 2024 to March 2025, 600 women will receive the necessary assistance in the form of food kits, non-food hygiene essentials and items that ensure comfortable living in the autumn-winter period (given the possibility of a power outage). Additionally, from April to June 2025 , another 355 women will receive kits that include food and non-food hygiene items. Thus, the total number of women receiving support within the project is 955 people. NGO MARTIN-club closely cooperates with local communities, authorities and opinion leaders, which allows it to respond promptly to challenges and provide assistance to women who need support most. Such interaction makes humanitarian initiatives more effective and sustainable, ensuring constant communication and understanding of the needs of the community.
